What our committees do

Law & Legislation

Promotes design-build as a procurement method for construction projects and advocates for greater legislative support at regional and, where relevant, national level.

• Organize efforts to introduce legislation across New England that encourages design-build best practices.
• Monitor new legislation that may limit or erode the use of design-build, and organize opposition to it.
• Act as a liaison with owner and industry groups on design-build legislation in their state and local governments.
• Maintain a point person in each New England state to support legislative efforts alongside DBIA National.
• Report to the membership on any legislation that may affect the industry.

Communications

Promotes the region by reaching out to allied organizations and the media, through research and surveys, media relations, article placements, advertising, and trade show support.

• Oversee all regional communications and keep messaging consistent with DBIA National's brand.
• Coordinate with newspapers and publications across New England to place program advertisements and articles of interest.
• Prepare the regional newsletter to keep members informed of news and events.
• Provide press releases to local publications for major regional activities.

Education & Events

• Plan and deliver programs on topics of interest that provide frequent networking opportunities and further the interests of DBIA.
• Manage programs within the budgets approved by the board.
• Provide enough events to keep the membership engaged and interested in regional activities.
• Provide programs throughout New England so all parts of the region are supported.

Membership

Markets the value of membership to prospective and current members, oversees retention, and encourages eligible companies and individuals to join DBIA.

• Support regional efforts to recruit new members and retain existing ones.
• Contact members regularly to learn how DBIA can better support them.
• Review retention reports from DBIA National and encourage lapsed members to renew, especially Industry Partner companies.
• Prepare lists of non-member companies and recruit them to DBIA.
• Encourage individual members at eligible firms to upgrade to Industry Partner status.
• Plan and deliver new member onboarding and engagement.

Sponsorship

Develops the structure and value of available sponsorships, coordinates them so they complement one another, and manages sponsorship marketing and solicitation.

• Leverage relationships with national sponsors for the benefit of the region.
• Increase the value and return for sponsors locally.
• Increase opportunities for sponsors to engage with DBIA members.
• Establish and advertise the sponsorship program in time for firms' budgeting for the following year.

Student Chapters

Recruits and engages students and student chapters, and helps them become members and credential holders. Works alongside the Education & Events Committee on the collegiate design-build competition.

• Act as the primary liaison between colleges and universities across New England.
• Support the formation of student chapters at major educational institutions in the region.
• Present topics of interest to student chapters.
• Encourage student participation at regional and national DBIA events.
• Hold student design-build competitions to inform and encourage design-build education.
• Support the addition of design-build curriculum at regional colleges and universities.
• Encourage and support faculty education in the use of design-build.

Owners Committee

Convenes the Owners Council, a group made up entirely of owners that provides a safe environment for discussion and knowledge sharing, without industry practitioners present.

• Provide a forum where owners can meet other owners to share design-build experience and best practice.
• Hold periodic meetings presenting topics of interest and providing networking opportunities.
• Encourage the use of design-build through presentations at owner conferences and personal contact.
• Encourage owner membership in DBIA.
